"Everyone's a star and deserves the right to twinkle"
My capstone is a self-esteem project. I work with six second graders at my former elementary school, Jefferson Elementary School. I create lesson plans and run my own class among my six children. In our class we have group discussions, do worksheets and also do fun activities like acting. I try to cover a new concept of self-esteem every lesson or every other lesson depending on the concept. At first I planned on doing my project with a group of all girls, I then spoke with my former 1st grade teacher, Mrs. Esernia and she gave me six students she felt should work with me. I ended up working with five boys and one girl, which I am fine with. They are such a great group of kids.
I chose to do a self-esteem project because when I was younger I was very self-conscious and not very confident in my own skin. I felt that if I were to have someone work with me on building my self-esteem when I was younger I would've have a better middle school experience. I just want to be able to help or influence these kids lives in any way I can.
